Offering to the Forefolc

Cynn is the heart of Frumcræft; it is from our cynn we derive our worth and to our cynn that we give worth. This remains true even after they have died. When one of our cynred dies they become one of our forefolc and so gifting may become appropriate.

It is a matter of Frumcræft reckoning that the forefolc are attached to their remains and that, if we are to gift them, we must leave the offerings with their remains.

Another matter of reckoning is that variable relationships between cynn and forefolc are possible, based on the relationships that were maintained in life.

With these in mind, offerings to the forefolc should be based on what the person liked in life, and the same level of respect and familiarity should be maintained.

Offering to the Wihta

Whilst the word "wihta" can be used to refer to any of the non-human (and often non-physical) beings that live along us, it typically refers to the local "spirits" that we consider to be our neighbours.

If you want to avoid conflict with them, the first rule of interacting with wihta is to deal with them on their terms. Wihta offend easily and can be very troublesome to daily life if not treated with the respect they feel they deserve.

Having a hūswiht around can be a great boon to the wel of the home as they help  out in various ways. The best way to ensure  their continued goodwill is to give regular daily offerings as payment for their chores.

Traditionally the hūswiht was known as the cōfgod as they make their home in the alcove behind the hearth. This location is the perfect spot to set your offering space. The preferred offering for the Wessaxon cōfgod is either honey, milk, or bread. A combination of these is also welcomed.

Prideful as they are, wihta dislike being thanked for what they do and are likely to turn from friendly to misdeedful should you insult their contribution to the home by thanking them. There are many tales of wihta that punish those who thank them.
